Matthew entered the industry in 1981 joining the family business at L.J. Hooker Belconnen as a property manager. Within two years he had moved to the sales environment enjoying instant success and then to an ownership role in 1984. From 1986 to 1989 Matthew played an integral role in the opening of offices in Kippax and Kaleen, before moving to open the Dickson office in 1990. Since then he has been responsible for the opening of Gungahlin, the resurrection of the Canberra City branch and the launch of L.J. Hooker Project Marketing (ACT), the acquisition and relaunch of LJ Hooker Woden / Weston and Tuggeranong branches.

Matthew has been awarded many performance awards during his distinguished career, including many sales and office performance awards, however, his career highlights have been:

- Inaugural Captain Club Inductee 1994 ( recognizing the top 10% of Sales People )

- Inaugural LJ Hooker Admirals Club inductee 1995 ( the top 5% of Franchise Owners )

- International Marketing Award 2001, 2010, 2017, 2018

- Sir Leslie Hooker Award (nominee) 1994, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011

- Franchise Owner of the Year 2002 and 2006

- Sir Leslie Hooker Award 2007 and 2013

- LJ Hooker Hall Of Fame 2018

- Real Estate Institute ACT Presidents Award 2021

In 2001 he was elected by his peers to sit on the ' LJ Hooker Franchise Owners Council'. As one of 8 Councilors who represent over 700 offices in an advisory capacity in developing the franchise offer with the Franchisor.

In 2007 he was elected Vice President of the 'L.J. Hooker Franchise Owners Council' and appointed to the Board of Directors for L.J. Hooker Limited, becoming President of the Council in 2008. He served on the LJ Hooker Ltd Board for 4 years before stepping down from the Board and the Council Presidency at the end of 2009.

Today Matthew remains Chairman of the Board at LJ Hooker Gungahlin and is a mentor to many Franchise Owners in Canberra and across Australia
